ABOUT ME

MY PHILOSOPHY

Welcome to Open Mind Psychology! My name is Dr. Zoey de Domenico and I am a registered psychologist with the College of Psychologists of BC. I prefer to be called Zoey and my pronouns are she/her/hers. In addition to being a psychologist, I am a partner, mother, daughter, friend, lover of nature, and novice gardener. I am an uninvited settler living and working on the unceded ancestral territory of the K’ómoks First Nation. In my work as a psychologist, I provide compassionate, evidence-based assessment and treatment for mental health issues and to help clients achieve important goals, reduce suffering, and improve the quality of their lives. With an emphasis on cognitive behavioural and mindfulness and acceptance-based treatments, my approach focuses on acknowledging and validating painful emotions, relating to thoughts and emotions in a different way, and practicing new behaviours that are more aligned with one’s goals and values.

I am excited to work with individuals from all walks of life – all genders, sexual orientations, cultures, and experiences are welcome.

EXPERIENCE

I earned my doctorate from Adler University in Vancouver, BC. During my graduate training, I mostly worked in in-patient hospital and correctional settings. After graduation, I completed a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at the DBT Centre of Vancouver. Following my postdoctoral fellowship, I worked at the DBT Centre of Vancouver providing comprehensive Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), including individual therapy and facilitating DBT Skills Groups. While at the DBT Centre of Vancouver, I started a Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (RO DBT) program. As Manager of the RO DBT program, I provided educational information about RO DBT to clinicians within and outside of the DBT Centre, participated in an RO DBT consultation group, assessed clients for disorders of overcontrol, provided individual RO DBT, and facilitated RO DBT skills classes. I have training in CBT, DBT, RO DBT, and ACT.

I have experience treating clients with emotion dysregulation, interpersonal issues, depression, anxiety, insomnia, posttraumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and difficulties associated with an overcontrolled coping style. I have a particular interest in treating adults with trauma, complex problems and personality disorders, and perfectionism and disorders of overcontrol.
